FI: Bringing Real-World Learning to Your Classroom!

Put the Franklin Initiative to work for you! Our goal is to make it easy to include real-world learning in the classroom. Our volunteers are trained and experienced in providing high-quality presentations to students of all ages. Here are a few ideas:

  • Career presentations by professionals in the field
  • Hold mock job interviews so students can practice their interviewing skills
  • Hold a career expo where students can go table to table to meet a variety of professionals in an informal setting.
  • Organize a career day where students hear career presentations from professionals in various fields.
  • Job shadowing, where students learn by watching a professional in an actual job setting.
  • Collaboratively teach a lesson with someone who uses information from the lesson in their job

The Franklin Initiative has over 50 volunteers from a wide variety of career fields who are waiting for the chance to share their knowledge and experience with your students. It costs nothing and there are no strings attached! For more information, contact Macy Hughes at [email protected]

Here's what teachers have to say:

"The Franklin Initiative was instrumental in assisting us in setting up a mock interview and job shadow experience for all of our students. This is a wonderful resource for assisting educators in bringing the Greater Bloomington Community into the classroom experience. The Franklin Initiative provided a bridge between our students and the Bloomington Community and therefore makes my lessons relevant to my students."
Joanne Novak, Bloomington New Tech High School

"The direct interaction between my students and the career fair participants proved to be invaluable. The Franklin Initiative's support and involvement in the development of this career fair also proved to be invaluable! Thank you!"
Jean Schick, Bloomington High School North
